Sheer Genius!!!
I have to publicly pat myself on the back - and share a tip for anyone
who may not have thought of it.
While doing routine maintenance and inspection I checked the diff and
trans fluid levels. Rear diff was low - a lot low. Now for anyone who
has ever tried to put fluid in a diff, you know it is not easy. I
messed around for a while getting a little bit in at a time but it was
taking too long and was a big PITA. think think think....aha!
I cut the elbow off a snorkel (you know, the scuba diving things). Blew
up a strong balloon and put it on an open bottle of gear oil. turn the
bottle upside down and let the oil flow into the balloon and the air
into the bottle. twist the balloon shut, remove from the bottle and
attach the balloon to the snorkel elbow. crawl under the car, stick the
end of the elbow into the fill plug, untwist the balloon and squeeeeeeze
the oil into the diff. I know that there are special pump tools and
stuff like that but for the backyard mechanic that doesn't want to
invest money in tools they only use once every couple of years, this is
great. By the way, if anyone uses this method I want
royalties......:>)just kidding.
