I decided to try the braking/steering system out tonight...the weather is
drizzly and the traffic was light, so I tried some ultra-panic situations on
a deserted 4 lane...
>From 65 MPH with two wheels in the gravel, the car still performs a panic
stop/emergency lane change beautifully...the brake idiot comes on the minute
(and goes out a second later) I stab the brake, the ABS kicks in and there is
no loss of power assist to the steering or the brakes. No extraordinary
brake pressure is needed to keep the ABS actuated. And the braking distance
is not bad...
But in testing the bomb, according to the FAQ, it is dead. I get the brake
idiot with the wheel locked one direction and a slight application of brake,
and I get the brake idiot with any application of brakes other than
squeeze...but the light does not stay on--it goes out 1 second later.
I tried killing the engine on the highway and was able to steer and brake the
vehicle simultaneously for about 3/10ths of a mile before I lost assist.
But sitting in the driveway, I lose assist after one application of the
brakes.
Am I really playing dangerously with this "bad'" bomb, and is it really
"bad"--could something else be going on?
Thanks!
