Re: 4kq with turbo vs. UR quattro

Not knowing a ton about rallying but knowing alot about 4ktq's and Ur-q's I
thought I might chime in.
I would guess that the 4ktq would be a little cheaper to run but the Ur has
many advantages.

Pro's 4ktq
1: Weight. It ways a couple of hundred pounds less than the UR.
2: Cost to purchase. Much less expensive to purchase than an UR.
3: 4 doors. Makes it easier to work on in some respects.
4: Cheap parts. Fenders and panels are cheap.
5: Later electrical parts. Should be slightly more reliable.

Cons:
1: Conversion is time consuming and can get expensive.
2: Stock fenders and wheel wells are very limited for tire size.
3: lighter axles and suspension components. The UR's had beefier
components.
4: 4 doors.
5: 4x108 wheels are harder to come by.
6: Low cool factor. Not that important in rallying but....

Pro's UR-Q
1: Conversion is easier. You will still need to convert to at least an MC
but the basics are there.
2: Wheel wells are larger allowing wider tires.
3: Heavy duty suspension and drive axles.
4: HIgh cool factor.

Cons:
1: Weight.
2: Costs of running in a rally. Fenders are VERY pricey even used.
3: Somewhat less reliable than the 4kq.
4: Hydrolic system for brakes and steering. Pentosin (need I say more)
5: Early electrical systems can be a nightmare.
6: More expensive to buy.

Hope that helps.
