RE: Tyres

Steve

Thanks for the reply, this does seem to be one big grey area. One thing I can't understand is I am already running two different tread patterns on the car (PO fitment not mine) P600 front P6000 rear if you know the tyres the pattern is very different. I have run the car for 10000 miles now with these tyres with no ill effects so far, the diff is not a Torsen. I agree with you that I don't know what is going to wear out, nobody has told me either. Interesting story though, proves the point that these trannys are pretty tough.

... I say don't worry about it ... as long as we're talking about an open
center diff (non-Torsen). The differential is there to make up for
differences in rotation ... what exactly is going to wear out when you have
slightly different tire sizes? I can also tell you that unknowingly I
bought a car where the PO had inadvertently installed a non-turbo tranny
into a turbo car. This meant that the rear differential had a final drive
ratio of 3.89:1 while the front had a 4.11:1. Other than the fact that you
could not lock the diffs on dry pavement the car ran fine ...
