RE: M3
I think some of the comments about fit and finish come from the quality of
materials, etc in a car that is pricey. I remember riding in a 3-series
convetible (the body style just replaced E-36?) with an ex-girlfriend and
being amazed that, in 1994, the car was well over $40k, yet the glovebox
didn't fit right and kept opening (yes, could be just that car, ie, a
lemon), but the use of hard and soft plastics amazed me. The car was, and I
think the current 3's are, tacky. Just cheap feeling, overall. The handling
and transmission feel may be worth a premium over an A4 (comparing apples to
apples), but the interior quality is poor. It's only until you dump big $$
into options do you get an interior equal to an A4's (2.8) standard one.

>Not sure who wrote about BMW's alleged "fit and
finish" problem, but that couldn't be farther from the truth in my
experience. Of course BMW has built some sh*tboxes, but being a member of
the BMWCCA and E30 M3 Special Interest Group, from what I have seen from
other owners (of all BMW models) and experienced myself, BMW has a fraction
of the reliability problems that VW/Audi has.
