Hmmm, does the air temp often go below -10F or even -20F where you live?
It does here.

I don't use 5w30 in my cars, but I do use Mobile 1 10w30, and I assure
you it works fine.  No lifter clatter or anything.

And in a non turbo audi 5cyl, I'd venture to say 10w30 Mobile 1 would
work fine all year long, although I do use 15w50 in the summer.
