Re: gear oil
Jenny,
You could try any synthetic brand gear oil. This will help your cold
weather shifting. My favorites are RedLine 75-90wNS, 75-90w and Mobil 1.
I use Redline in my '89 quattro Avant. RedLine "NS" nomenclature stands
for "Non-Slip" and used in gearboxes _without_ limited slip
differentials, like the Audi 016 gearbox in your 4000q. The "NS" sticks
and "climbs" up the syncros on each gear better. Gearboxes that do have
a "LSD" (limited slip differential) use 75-90w like the Audi 016J, 016K,
and 016R found in the Porsche 944 and 951. Redline also makes MTL
(manual transmission lubricant) which is IMHO too thin and some other
thicker viscosity's like 80-140w typically used for GL5 applications,
for the rear differential. Call Keith or Chris at Anderson Motorsport
(there close to you right?). Happy shifting.
