4kq low oil pressure light- help!
Car: '85 4kq, apx 140k miles
Situation: I'm on about the 200th mile of a 300-odd mile trip on the
interstate
when the low oil pressure light/buzzer goes off. DOH! First reaction was to
put
in the clutch, and the light went out. I was about to get off for
gas anyway, so off I go. Oil full, light stayed off for the rest of the
trip.
Got home and did an oil change, as it was due (Mann filter/10w30 Mobile 1).
Light comes on every drive now. Only when cruising between 2-3k rpm. If I
lug
it in 5th at 40mph, no light. I can steadily watch the light start to glow,
and
get brighter till it suddenly buzzes. If I put the clutch in (and let off
the gas)
light goes out, then repeats a minute later. If I put the clutch in and
keep the
revs the same with the gas, light stays on.
My gut feeling: Electrical problem, it _is_ an Audi, you know (and you
thought
Lucas was the only prince of darkness). Anyway, I think electrical becuse I
get
no lifter noise, no increase in oil temps, and everything generally seems
fine
except the damn light. Plus, why would the light go out when the RPM's
_decrease_?
Possible cause: I did remove the tray assemble below the steering wheel to
run some
speaker wire for new door speakers, perhaps I loosened something? Still,
didn't start
untill 200miles into trip...
Request: Any troubleshooting tips. It's cold outside, and I am really
busy, so
anything that helps me find an awnser sooner would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Erik Addy
