CB question
Folks,
In my 200TQ I had the CB mounted in the under dash parcel shelf.
Neither of my present quattros have such shelves in them. Due to the
lack of mounting space I will be getting a handheld unit. Added benefit
- it will be transportable from car to car.
I am presently looking at two CBs out of JCWhitney:
1. Midland #75-822, Whitney p/n 81TB6069A, $119.88.
2. No-name CB, Whitney p/n 81TB2473R, $79.95.
Both will require an external whip. I'd love to get the thru-the-glass
one that I was so happy with on the 200. However, with the factory
thru-the-glass cellular antenna in the back, the second thru-the-glass
cellular-look-alike CB antenna in the front can make my S6 appear "too
urban" as our listmeister delicately describes this kind of a look :-).
Aesthetics aside, anyone have an opinion of the Midland product? Or the
JCWhitney no-name one for that matter?
In the past I tried the following CBs:
1. Radio Shock unit - did not like it a bit. Returned.
2. Cobra - was OK.
3. Uniden - was very good.
4. Older GE unit - outstanding reception. I settled on this particular
unit in my 200. Coupled with the JCWhitney thru-the-glass
cellular-look-alike CB antenna it was pulling truckers from 20+ miles as
if they were on the phone with me.
I never saw a Midland before.
Dan and Dave have handheld CBs in their cars. Would you gentlemen mind
reposting your impressions as I did not save them the first time around?
Any HAM/Amature Radio operators care to comment? Thanks in advance guys.
