Re: '90 200q timing belt replacement
Tony, I think you can find better prices on the parts. I posted the results of
my TB, etc. replacement (at 126k) to the list about a week ago. I copied that
post below for you. This should give you an idea of the price you can expect to
pay if you shop around a little. I bought a crank seal as well, but did not
replace the old one as it was not leaking and looked great. Would have been the
same labor charge if I had it done, however.
I did not do the work myself because I did not want to screw anything up on a
car I was unfamiliar with, but was watching the mechanic at every step and could
have done the job easily myself. He used an impact wrench, and did not need the
special tool. I realize this won't work for everyone, but it did in my case, so
it is possible.
Please email me if I can be of any additional help.
Good luck...

The $120.00 was exclusive of the parts - belt, pump, and tensioner - which cost
$90.00. Both front
seals were good, and the shop included the misc and disposal in the labor cost.
I knew I'd be flushing the cooling
system when I got home,
so I just had them refill with water. After all taxes and shipping on the parts,
my total cost for the job was $228.72.
Took some effort on my part to do the research/parts-sourcing, but saved me a
LOT to do so.
5 hours from D.C., 6 tops. When should I expect you? :^)

miscellaneous, and disposal of
hazardous materials did it?
