RE: Pat's Tranny Blues
Well, the 5k made it back. ~1000 miles round trip with no second gear.
Lucky it was all interstate. The powerglide tranny is driveable around town
but rather annoying. One must rev the motor to 3.5-4k to obtain the proper
speed for 3rd gear to just catch. Then use light throttle to avoid an
unwanted downshift back down to 1st.
I changed the filter and fluid in Pensacola, filter had some sharp metallic
particles in it, not very big and not very many. The TransX did not help a
bit, as my luck would dictate.
Still haven't had time to clean the valve body, maybe next weekend.
Now the power windows don't work, I suspect the relay.
And the brake shimmy is still there, this problem seems minor now.
Ahh, the joys of owning an old, high mileage car...
