lack of power on 100 Avant

Hi all

I need some of the collective wisdom to try and run down a problem on my wife's 100 2.0E Avant Auto 1991, the car has the engine code RT and has done 52000 miles. When the car has warmed up we sometimes experience an almost total lack of power when say you are pulling up to a roundabout and almost stopped then reapplying the throttle you have no power, the revs don't rise in other words. Backing off and reapplying or flooring it does make it go again. The car does not stall either. Any thoughts?? This one has me beat at the moment. 

The car is / has been very well maintained, the plugs are new along with dizzy cap and rotor arm.
