Absolutely.  Once a year during the MoT test.  A lens/mirror/screen
device is rolled in front of each headlight in turn and the pattern
must exactly match one of a set of legal profiles on the screen.

Bearing in mind we drive on the left - the pattern is flat-topped on
the right and centre so it doesn't blind other drivers, and slopes up
high on the left to illuminate pedestrians and road signs.  I run 100w
low beams and never receive any complaints from on-coming drivers.
