Re: REPOST: 88 5ksq trunk latch spring -- Does *anyone* know?
I just looked in the trunk latch on two Type 44's and a 4K car, and the
latch assembly looks to be the same for all them (years range from '86 to
'91), Andrejs. When looking from inside the trunk, the spring attaches to
a lever arm in the upper left of the assembly, but I cannot see the other
end of the spring without removing a latch. It crosses from the visible
attachment point to lower right and connects to something that moves
toward the top of the assembly when you push on the part of the latch that
contacts the post on the body. Whatever it attaches to moves upward
slightly, but not enough to make the spring attachment visible even with
the latching lever fully activated. Mine all look like regular extension
springs, but I'd guess they're pretty commonly available (maybe even VW
products?) in junk yards if too expensive from a dealer.
