Re: Todd Pheneger's overheat
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and ideas. One thing I forgot to
mention I guess in my original 2-page post is that the car ran at normal
temps for a couple weeks beore this problem. Wierd. It actually ran
pretty cool (mainly becouse of the outside temps) and now runs hot. WAy
hotter than it did a couple weeks ago. Even a week ago. it just suddenly
started running hot and I was on the freeway when I noticed it.
So, summarizing what I've heard so far.
1) Dont worry, it may just settle down later, if lights not on,
leave it alone.
2) Bad sender. (I doubt it due to my hot heater thing ) but I
will check it anyhow and measure the actual temp as I'll try anything at
this point.
3) Air bubble in head. (very possible but I find unlikely after
3-flushes.) Maybe this is why Pat has had his car run hot for a while
after a flush??? Just hypothesizing.
4) Bad headgasket. (I only say this because a guy at a local
import parts place said that happens. I get no oil in coolant or coolant
in oil and no seepage of any fluids out side of block and no smoke or
coolant steam out of exhaust. And compression is fine. But he said
sometimes it just pressurizes the cooling system to much??? He said they
test it by sniffing the coolant champber for gasses or something. My gut
wants to tell me because the usual signs of bad head Gasket aren't there
and it seems fine and is new that its fine. But I'm worried non the
less. No one has confirmed this possibility or said I shouldnt
worry. comments???
Anyhow, with no thermostat in place the car runs at normal tmeps
so I guess I'm Ok. For the time beeing. i'm driving but it takes a hwile
to warm up so I'm riding my bike to class. I have more ways to check it
when I'm homne in a heated garage. :-) parking Lots with ice on them
suck. But I can check the colant sensor while I'm down here. And water
temp.
I'll repoart my findings when I get them. Curious about thoughts
on head gasket. Maybe Pat is right and it will go away or James is right
and I have an air bubble stuck somewhere but then that doesnt explain why
it was fine for 2-weeks and then started. And when it started runnign hot
my heater suddenly started working so much better. :-)
Anyhow, thanks. Turbo 4kq's are fun but right now its REALLy
frustrating. :-)
