getting fresh with my driveshaft.........

I hope not too many people in my neighborhood were paying attentin to me
as I was working on taking the driveshaft out of the 87 5ktq parts car
today...

After I removed the tranny (PITA  in and of itself), I was trying to
remove the shaft from the rear diff, and I could not for the life of me
get the thing to budge.  I wents so far as to wrap my legs around the
shaft and try thrusting my legs outward with the bottom of my feet resting
on the flange that normally bolts up to the tranny.  Yes this motion was
vaguely obscene ;-)

Anyway, anybody got any idea on what to do to get the shaft off the rear
diff?  I even tried wraping a rope around the shaft and using a come-along
to try to pull it off...  I ended up snapping the wrope (thick
stuff!!!).  WTF is holding this thing on!?!?  And yes... all 6 bolts are
out....
