S3 sighting in Raleigh, NC

I was cruising through the back lot of the local dealer (Leith Audi
in Cary) on Sunday morning when I got a huge surprise. Sitting
alongside several other cars waiting for service was a black S3.

When I first glanced at it I thought it a was an A4. I could only
see the nose sticking out and there were no badges other than the
four rings. As I got closer I could tell that it was a two-door with
a hatch. For a split second I didn't know what it was, then it hit
me that it was an A3. Upon closer inspection, it was actually an S3.

There was no exterior badging, but there was an S3 badge in the
instrument cluster and also a fax on the front seat referring to the
car as an S3. I didn't see an obvious VIN, but there was rear
differential.

It wasn't in perfect shape. There were a few scratches, the LR was
flat, and the RF was the doughnut spare. It had a North Carolina
plate that expired in September.

Does any lister know anything about this wayward Audi that brightened
my day.

Rick Hunt
