RE: FS: '87 4kq Turbo
yes, a STOCK MC transplant yields only 162hp (less actually as exhaust on
5ktq is better) but that almost never happens. Every 4ktq I know of is
chipped at least some of the time. Or will be chipped. Secondly, a 4kq
with 160hp is as fast as a 5ktq with 200.
As for Pats comment about 400hp being heavenly. Well, your 5ktq
COULD beat a 4kq, but it doesnt have all the stuff you mentioned. there
are at least Two 4ktq's on the west coast with around 400hp. Both are
20vt's but even the MC is Easily capable of 250 and with EFi 300-350. So
is a 5ktq but with 500-600 less lbs to carry around, the 4ktq is faster
and more tossable.
I think pat was just illistrating his thoughts on the matte.r
he's probably ridden in Alex's 20vt 4kq as have I and it IS HEAVENLY. So
I owlndt knock him for it.
Anyhow, they are both great cars in their element. The 5ktq/200
is hard to beat period for a highway cruiser and high speed travel. but
on the track or a tight twisty back road i prefer the 4ktq or even a
4kq. Have you ever driven a 4ktq or a well prepared 4kq??? I've driven
plenty of just about every Audi and they all have thir pro's and
con's. But for back road travel where I live, the 4kq is vastly superior
to the 5ktq jsut due to size, nimblness and weight.
However at a wide open track like PIR I think the 200/5ktq is
actualy potentially faster just due to aerodynamics. ANd I owuldnt' agree
with Pats term of calling them Dogs or whatever it was. they are heavy
but set up well they can still fly. But they just dont feel like the
4kq. Its a much more personal car.

Point well taken, Pat. However, I was mentioning the caveats for those
who may jump at the car w/o really thinking about what they may be
getting into. Then again, as a type 44 owner now, I don't think it could
be any worse than a type 44 in terms of headaches.
Don't knock the 5kt, I'm not calling anyone's car names. If you took my
comments personally, they were not intended to be insulting. And who said
anything about 400hp? A stock MC transplant car will only have 162hp, if
the exhaust system path is equal to that of a type 44. You can mod
anything
to ridiculous numbers, with enough time and money. My 5kcstq with a
sequential
twin turbo system, Alcon B-types, custom coilover suspension, ported and
polished head, custom pistons and crankshaft, dry sump system, custom
intercooler and everything but the kitchen sink will blow your 4ktq into
the
weeds and seat four people comfortably. Of course, that may cost $80k to
do properly. We're not talking about sky's the limit now, are we? Of
course,
I could always buy an S1 and prep it for street/track use.
