A fuel leak maybe?  Try stopping when you smell it and sniffing/looking
around the starboard side of the engine bay for leaks.  Then under the
car, back to inside of the port rear wheel where the fuel pump and
filter are.  Normally there should be no smell of gasoline anywhere so
if you notice some you are getting close.

If you do have a fuel leak, it might be dangerous, by the way.
