Locking the crank on an ABY engine
I thought the #2084 tool was common to all of the I5s - but evidently
not. I changed a cam belt and chain on an ABY yesterday and the 2084
didn't even reach far enough into the harmonic damper to engage the
Woodruff/dog clutch inside.
Is there another tool?
BTW - I also hadn't realised that the ABY is distributorless - coil per
cylinder formed into the cover with timing apparently derived from a
magnetic pickup on the cam gear. It ran beautifully when it was done.
The S2 Avant chassis is a dream to work on, except that it's too low
to get on to ramps. Three bolts each side remove the front crossmember
with the auxiliary radiator and intercooler still attached. The
flywheel mark is a really deep and easy to spot groove, and the cam
gear has alignment marks both front and rear.
