type 44 question

What's the little switch under the accel pedal on the automatic 5k's?   dumb 
question, i know, just never really thought much about it, since the 5spd 
5k's don't have it.  The switch apparently is only under the accel pedal of 
the automatic 5k's.  what does it do?  shut off compressor when under full 
throttle for passing etc? kick down the tranny for passing?  anyway, its 
broken/missing on my '86 5kT...just wondered what it does..  or did, or if 
it's important that it's even there....
