Re: heating door
If it closes partially, but not completely, there's possibly an obstruction
(leaves and twigs, acorns, etc., can find their way to the door opening
past the rain diverter under the hood), or else the vacuum "motor" or
whatever it's called on the other end of the door system (which opens the
fresh air door for the AC intake) may not be functioning properly. When I
tore out all that stuff and sealed up the recirculation door on my '87
5kcstq because the AC was no longer functional and I wanted to service the
heater blower, I started by tearing out the same stuff on my '86 parts car,
which had a good blower motor, to extract that motor, and I discovered that
the vacuum thingy in the evaporator box was broken. That vacuum motor
opens the fresh air door to let air to the heater/AC blower whe the AC is
off and, at the same time, closes the recirculation door in the passenger
compartment. With the AC on, the motor closes the fresh air inlet and
opens the passenger compartment door, which is the one you describe as only
partially closed.
