Clogged Cat? Hmm... Seems unlikely, in that the car ran fine in the morning 
and then ran terrible upon startup in the evening. I always thought that 
Cat clogging would require some length of running time during which a 
decline in performance would occur. This car ran normal/typical/strong in 
the morning and then as if possessed by evil spirits in the evening with no 
running in between. 

The cap/rotor/wires are brand new - I just replaced them using the tune-up 
kit from Blau the weekend prior to the symptoms in preparation for our 
annual Christmas trip to visit the inlaws out east. I suppose a defective 
new part might exist. Something to look at, anyway.
