RE: Northern rusty Q's? (weak spot?)

I have an '89 200TQ and it has spent most of it's life in Northern Michigan
and now Southern Wisconsin. And, there is no rust on this car. Well, some
corrosion underneath and in the engine bay which makes loostening bolts a
chore, but no rust per se.

There is one spot where these cars (and I've had two of them do it) tend to
rust, and that is right below the tailights and just above the rear bumper.
This metal stip just didn't get the sane rust proofing as the rest of the
body and also this is an area that collects a lot of water and it tends to
sit up in there for long periods of time. I just had a little bit of body
work done on the car this summer from a little mishap and I had them strip
this part down and repaint it while it was there. It was just surface rust
and cleaned up nicely, but it is an area to watch for. Not that expensive
to have professionally repaired as well.

The other thing you can do is fill in all those little stone chips with
touch-up paint before the winter. Stone chips are a fact of life, and seem
more prevelant in the snowbelt, but with a little touch up paint, you can
keep salt from getting in there and causing any rust spots.

Stephane..... I also repainted my rocket panels this summer as well. Not
that hard and can use some rust blocker as a primer.
