first I would pull the lower speedo cable from the OXS counter box. try
spinning the litle square wire by hand - if you can, it's broken (or the
driver in the tranny is, but lets ignore that for now). If so, remove
it, get new one. You can also remove the upper cable from the OXS
counter box, attach it to an electric drill and spin it CCW. you will
see the speedo work if that cable is good.
Now you are ready to fix, as I was informed, and learned, the real
problem - it is prolly the OXS counter, all corroded and gunked up
inside, that broke the cable. (mine broke the 1st spare I used as well).
Remove it, open it up, examine evidence, remove the gear train driving
the counter, lubricate.
You can either reinstall with a new (or used) lower cable or remove it
and use a later style one piece cable - cause either way you're gonna be
counting to 30,000 on your own now...
