Less air flow maybe?  Is that where all the dust in my car comes from? 
I thought it came in the windows as well.  In fact, I once read that 90%
of dust is dead human skin.  That 1/4" machinist cloth was handy, it
does keep out the leaves, acorns, and pine cones, and that keeps the
squirrels out...

Do you still get good flow?  Sounds like a good idea.  How often do you
have to clean it?
