012 Transmission in '99 A4, Passat 2WD Models?

    I noticed that Quaife lists that there is an application for limited
slip diffs on the A4 and Passat that have the 012 manual trans(2WD).  I
distinctly know that the 012 transmission is something from my car's era,
late eighties.  Is this same transmission?  My dinky Audi 80 4 cylinder got
the 012 back in '88 and Audi/VW is still using the same trans ten years
later?
