Re: Aftermarket Red Illumination Stereo?????

Actually the Blaupunkt isn't the only unit out now with the Amber
Illumination. Some
of the newer Alpine decks are available with it as well. Not sure if its
switchable but
I saw some at the local Stereo Shop with Amber Illumination.
Some of the Sony ES units had them too but that may have changed.

True, indeed. But Kenwood isn't nearly so obliging these days. I too
bought a
KRC-440 in 1993- nice switchable illumination, didn't even need it in the
POS
Chrysler I had at the time. (green dash lights)- I kept that radio through
my
next couple of cars, then got the 5kcst with a dead Kenwood- replaced that
with
a Blau in 1997.
Fast forward to this year: I was looking for a radio in the $250 range,
not a
Blaupunkt, the one in the 5k had problems. Figured it would be easy to
have a
radio which would match the CGT's dash. Wrong. Aside from the Blau that
Gary
Erickson helpfully pointed out, there's apparently no such thing anymore,
which
is why I have an Alpine (frosty green buttons!) in the Coupe now, after
two
months of looking.
So, if you can find a good used Kenwood, you may be in luck. Otherwise, I
think
your only option is Blaupunkt...

Rob
