In most states, if the officer who observed the speed is not in court to 
testify, you walk due to lack of evidence. this worked for me in NY. However 
in Mass, the law read (and it survived a challenge in the MA supreme court) 
that in the interest of economy, the police can send an officer to represent 
all the cases that day. Just another duty shift. Once in my case, the judge 
did dismiss the case but he didn't have to for lack of evedence. Don't know 
about Maine, but I would be very sure that if the officer who wrote you up is 
there to ask him "how fast did you observe me going" He will have to say he 
did'nt make the obsrevation. Therefore push for dimissal due to lack of 
evedence.
