I tried changing the colour on my old JVC CD head unit once. Swapping the
'condoms' over the miniature bulbs for some red ones was easy. Not so easy
was the multitude of miniature LEDs illuminating the buttons- I gave up on
those, and ended up with a red/green illumination. I coudn't figure out how
to swap a 1mm LED... and alas, we don't have ANY shops that fix car stereos
here in Holland- everything is returned to the importer's.
BTW Grundig (I'm not sure if they sell in the US) makes an excellent head
unit with illumination that can be changed between red, green and orange,
with 24 shades in between. They also come with a pre-set 'switch on volume'
(so that you're not reminded of exactly _how_ loud you were playing your
music last night when you came home), and some even have the
speed-dependent volume (GALA) feature. If I had the money... My current
Blaupunkt San Remo is OK and trouble-free, but the orange/yellow
illumination doesn't really match. I'm no fan of the 'one-armed bandit
look' multicolour displays that are so popular these days.
