HP Gains on 87 5KCSQT

Read an old post on how to gain 40 hp on my car by adding washers to
wastegate spring (did that) and soldering a zener diode and a resistor to
ECU but procedure was deleted.  Does anyone know how to do that and is it
safe?  Also read another post about adding a turbo bypass valve to gain more
boost and faster spool up but directions were unclear to me.  It mentioned
attaching a hose from intercooler to valve (simple) and another from valve
to a metal hose.  There is a metal hose running from motor to turbo.  Is
that the one and how do you attach it?  I'm confused?  Maybe the real
question is whether installing a bypass valve is possible on an 87 5KCSQT.
Please advise.
