5kcstq questions (LONG)
Beginning research on "restoring" my '87 5kcstq daily driver w/148k mi.
Overall it's in great shape, but...
1. Brake upgrade recommendations/experiences? I'm looking into Ate vented
Power Disks. Good/bad? What pads are good for daily driver use?
2. I'm thinking my shimmy under brake is suspension related--probably
bushings. What's a good source for parts? What are some key things I
should have the suspension/align guy check?
3. Has anyone had their windsheild polished? I've heard of this but don't
know if the results are worth the effort. (minor pitting in wiper region)
4. Seats reskinned: leather is too much, and I don't dig mouse fur--er
velour. Has anyone tried Alcantara or Ultrasuede?
5. Tachometer is sometimes on the fritz--not working or sputtering. What to
look for?
6. Perforance: once engine is dialed in, looking into Mockry's chip and
spring. Has anyone also tried a bypass valve (is this the same as
blow-by?)? Larger intercooler? Clutch/master/bomb are fine, will they hold
up with approx. 20 more h.p.?
7. Looking for good source of window switches/regulators--anyone?
8. Stupid: what the heck is the "G-->" (G w/arrow) on the Computer supposed
to be?
9. Paint experiences, what to watch out for, etc. I'm looking at Earl Shieb
(!) $599+bodywork top-of-line respray.
