Engine fault codes

1989 Audi 200 Turbo/Quattro pre November 88.  I drove the car for about 10 minutes during which the RPMs went over 3000 and I accelerated with full throttle several times.  I then tried the procedure to read fault codes by putting a fuse in the top of the fuel pump relay for 5 seconds to activate the system. All worked and I got a code of 4444 "all is well". So far so good. Then to further test the fault code system I tried to simulate faults.  I removed the connector to the idle switch and the full throttle switch.  I then drove the car for at least 10 minutes with RPMs going over 3000 and accelerating with full throttle several times. I then read the fault codes again and got 4444 "all is well". I don't know why I didn't get fault codes for a bad idle switch and a bad full throttle switch.  Anyone have any ideas?
