suspension rebuild

Regarding my '87 5kcstq w/148k mi., I need to replace bushings that I 
suspect are a)really old and b)causing a shimmy.

I'm hoping I only have to replace bushings & strut mounts.  (my mechanic 
says all the parts look ok)  Are there any susp. components that should be 
replaced while I'm at it, this being an old car that I want to keep for a 
long time?  I'm hoping to save money, only replace what's needed, but also 
do the job right the first time.
