 "I noticed a new sound-- a fast
"thump-thump-thump" that is very faint, but noticable above 50mph while
steering slightly to the right (sounds like running over small pavement
seams rapidly).

In my experience the 2 things where a sound is effected this way when 
turning, are bearings and CV's. 
Usually when a bearing starts to go, it will 'groan' when going straight, the 
faster the louder.  Turning the 
wheel somtimes makes the sound go away.  If you had a good bearing put in, 
and it was seated properly,
I would guess one of your CV's was bad.

I'm sure other listers have more insight on this.
