Not a strange question at all ...
I've noticed that a worn bearing in the transmission can cause a hissing
noise, particularily when it's real cold and before the transmission
warms up.
It may be that the sound is being transmitted through the shift forks
(out to the shifter) when they touch the sliding operating sleeve.
Does the noise become less as the transmission warms up? Can you make the
noise come and go by moving the shift lever very slightly fore and aft?
If these are 'yes', I'd bet on a worn transmission bearing. And since
the noise correlates to roadspeed, it would be something like an output
shaft bearing. This probably isn't a hugh problem to fix, other than
the transmission has to come out and get dissassembled.
