Audi ur-quattro clutch slave cylinder replacement.
NOTE: Clutch slave cylinders of markedly inferior quality are finding their way onto the market. Ensure you obtain your replacement from a reputable source, and check that the piston is retained by a proper circlip and not a pressed-in star washer.
Procedure:
- Place car on a lift or axle stands.
- Select third gear.
- Optionally detach the track rods (tie rods). In difficult cases, it may be necessary to remove the heater hose and detach much of the wiring.
- Lie under the car behind the front axle, head at left of car.
- Detach flexible hose at bulkhead fitting.
- Remove the securing clip on the slave cylinder.
- [To 85-J-900108] Using a drift, knock out the roll pin. The nominal size is 6mm - any drift between about 4.5mm and 5.5mm will work.
- [From 85-J-900109] Remove the securing bolt from the left of the slave cylinder.
- Loosen clutch slave cylinder with an appropriate lever. This may require considerable effort.
- Working from the engine bay, drift the slave cylinder backwards.
- Fit the flexible hose to the new slave cylinder and refit. The roll pin may be replaced with an M6 shanked bolt.
