Gear stick checks:
- Engage 1st gear.
- Press lever to left onto stop.
- Hold lever with one finger and let it spring slowly back to the pressure point. Measured at the knob, the movement must be at least 5mm.
- Engage 5th gear.
- Press lever right onto stop.
- Hold lever with one finger and let it spring slowly back to the pressure point. Measured at the knob, the movement must be at least 5mm.
- If these movements are correct, the shift quality cannot be improved further by adjusting the linkage.
Adjustment (fine) - if the spring movement is not correct, the setting can be corrected by moving the stop sideways in the elongated holes. The movement should be roughly the same for first and fifth gears.
- Stop to right - more movement in 5th gear.
- Stop to left - more movement in 1st gear.
Adjustment (basic) - the basic setting should only be done when the fine adjustment is insufficient or after a repair that involved loosening the clamp.
- Gearbox in neutral.
- Adjust setting rod to an angle between the axes of 30 degrees and a length between the axes of 134mm.
- Push shift rod on ball housing.
- Fit adjusting rod.
- Align centring holes in stop and gear lever base, tighten bolts.
- Loosen clamp (underneath car) - connection must move freely.
- Place gauge 3048 in position. Insert gauge pins in the vacant holes in stop pad on the right side first and then in the left hand holes of the stop pad.
- Check gearbox in neutral.
- Tighten clamp.
- Remove gauge.
- Check and perform fine adjustment if necessary.
- Select all gears. Check especially the reverse catch.
- Fit boot.
- Screw on gear knob.
IMPORTANT: Gear lever boot must contact gear lever knob
