Checking valve guides - Audi MB/1B/MC-2 engines
- Insert a new valve into the valve guide until the end of the valve stem is flush with the top end of the guide. Because of different stem diameters, ensure that an inlet valve is used to measure inlet valve guides and an exhaust valve is used to measure exhaust valve guides
- Determine rock with the dial gauge:
Inlet valve guide wear limit: 1.0 mm
Exhaust valve guide wear limit: 1.3 mm
- Cylinder heads on which either the valve seats or the head itself have been reworked to the minimum dimensions should not be further repaired
- Worn factory original valve guides (without shoulder) should be pressed out from the camshaft side. Worn replacement guides (with shoulder) must be pressed out with care from the combustion chamber side using VAG 10-206
- Coat new valve guide with oil and press in from camshaft side with VAG 10-206 until the shoulder makes contact
- Do not exceed 1 tonne once the guide is home - the shoulder may break off
- Ream out the new guide using hand reamer VAG 10-215 and plenty of cutting fluid
- Rework valve seats
