Removing and installing camshaft oil seal
- Remove wastegate heatshield, noting position of rear earth strap
- Remove cam cover reinforcing straps, noting position of front earth strap
- Remove cam cover, taking care not to lose rear half-moon gasket
- Check cam cover for flatness between fixing holes
- THE METHOD ILLUSTRATED (BRACING AGAINST THE CAM COVER STUD) DOES NOT WORK
- Pack the space below the cam wheel with rags (to catch the Woodruff key if it falls).
- The cam pulley must be prevented from turning using VAG 3036 or similar
- It is critical that the cam wheel not be turned with any force against resistance - this might bend one or more valves. If the cam wheel slips, return it to the nominal TDC position before making another attempt.
- Remove the cam sprocket wheel and Woodruff key.
- If a 3036 is not available and Audi's technique must be used, reverse the spacer on the stud and push it against the backing plate with an M6 nut on the thread - 15Nm.
