• Set heater controls to warm
• Take cap off expansion tank
• Since the coolant contains G11 it must be captured for reuse or disposal. Coolant is highly poisonous to pets
• Detach coolant hose at rear of radiator
• Detach coolant hose to heater at rear of cylinder block

Refilling the coolant

Note: The vehicles stood be standing on a level surface.

The coolant system is filled all year round with a mixture of water and G11 coolant additive. G11 and coolant additives marked as being in accordance with TL VW 774 A prevent freezing, corrosion damage and scaling and also raise the boiling point of the coolant. For this reason the cooling system must be filled all year round with this mixture. Due to the raised boiling point, the coolant is an aid to the operational efficiency of the engine when the engine is operating at full load, especially in tropical climes.

• Set heater controls to warm
• If present, loosen bleed screw on radiator
• Pour in coolant until it runs out of bleed screw
• Tighten bleed screw - beware low torque
• Continue filling until expansion tank is full
• Start engine and allow to run
• Add coolant until the level is stable at the 'Max' mark
• Screw cap onto coolant header tank
• Run engine until the radiator fan runs
• Turn off engine and check level when cool

When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant level must be above the minimum mark. When the engine is cold,, the level must be at least up to the marker point. Because of the danger of scalding, the expansion tank cap must never be removed when the engine is hot. If returning a vehicle to service after a long period, beware that old hoses may burst at any time
