Thanks, all. I don't have a jack stand or even decent floor jack where I am and I dare not get under the car with just the widow maker. I'll have to pull some strings and have her towed. AAA will take me wherever I need, so I can call my grandparents and have t towed down to Force 5. I'm quite fortunate to only be an hour from Chris.
When I got home, I tried seeing what I could find just by turning the wheels full lock. My tie rod ends look solid (that was my first thought) and everything looks decent except for the right outer CV. Last time I had a CV pop, it was completely different than this, so that didn't immediately come to mind.
And, yes, something in the front started creaking going over road imperfections, then I went around a corner and POP, violent steering wheel oscillations but it didn't translate into actual steering problems. I was still able to control the car fine without fighting. I just had a vibration of 2-3 inches either way in the steering wheel.
I'm aware I'll need the new tyre. Rt 4 in rural NH has few good places to pull over. I figured it was better to have to drop some money on a new tyre and possibly wheel than risk getting hit by the yahoos that tear around the curves.
I tried to research this for hours before I came to the list.

There was a lovely popping and grinding as I took a right onto one road and again on to another, and when I got home, my right tire has massive cracks in the sidewall - though it still holds air.
