Chris,
Yes, the tube that comes off of the main hose is in good shape. I can see
where this would be a weak point though. My split is very close to the
inter-cooler in the large straight section. I would have expected it to be
closer to the turbo and on the bottom instead of the top surface. In fact
it took me a few minutes to find the tear in the hose since this was the
last place I expected to find it.
The price that I quoted was from Clair since I knew that this hose might be
expensive although not that expensive.

Doesn't this hose have the connection for the turbo bypass valve? Have you
priced the hose through the discount dealers (either Clair in Boston, or
Carlson in California)? As I recall, others have had the hose split where
the bypass valve connects...
Of course, you could likely fabricate something using parts for turbocharged
trucks, or a combo of rubber and hard parts.
