Wow - the 1200 @ idle seems high, but all I can base that on is my turbo
diesel F-250. I see about 200 at idle, and about 375 or so crusing down the
road at 65 mph. Increase speed to 80 and I see about 550. Throw 8000 lbs of
trailer behind it, and I see about 600 at 65. Seems to me you are seeing a
very small change from idle to road speed. I look forward to the actual
observed data.

I'd also think 1200 at idle high... I assume at the high temp you're seeing the manifold and / or turbo housing glowing faintly red, particularly at night? So, do you see the same at idle? If so, perhaps you've got a clogged cat, or are running lean (not likely, as I think you're using a mixture meter as well)...
