Thanks John, I appreciate the info, and the suggestion of borrowing a
helmet. The guy that suggested fire-retardance was a motorcycle guy, and he
was just trying to be helpful. :)

A second shop owner hadn't heard about any specific rules about
fire-retardance either...

I ended up ordering a Bell M2, bag and neck brace from OGRacing.com. Friend
of mine has bought a bunch of stuff from them and has been happy with both
service and pricing.

OG offered me a reasonable price on an SA 95 M3 (older design but a bit
lighter than the M2), but I went with the SA 2000 M2. There's an active
autocross community here in New England (www.ner.org) and I want to go start
playing. Haven't had the equipment in the past to be able to do so, and now
that I do have a car that will at least be fun, if not necessarily
competitive...

Course the first scheduled autocross school I could do is scheduled for
Memorial Day weekend, and I'll be bike racing in New Jersey. <sigh>

Too many wheeled diversions.  :)
