SA helmets already have nomex liners.  that used to be one of the 
differences between the SA and M specs, but M95 and later have 
nomex liners as well.

so you've got the flame-retardant angle covered.

if you are looking to get into this cheaply, i'd look at whether the
solo rules allow you to run an M-spec helmet.  motorcycle helmets can
be a lot cheaper, and a new M95 helmet can be purchased for less than
$100.
