Just for fun, I've combed through the McMaster Catalog to find out what it
would take. http://www.mcmaster.com They don't carry the Superior ball
joint, which has a nylon race, but have a very similar unit with an oil
impregated bronze race, which is what I have used:
Version 1:
10 ft/pc 1/2" nominal EMT tubing 7176K1 2.27
2.27
2 5/8x18 ball rod end 6072K67 10.31
20.62
pkg/50 Hex Jam Nuts 5/8x18 62A535 7.59 7.59
Total, w/o shipping:
30.48
Version 2 (an unproven idea using 316 SS Welded tubing - note it will have
to be reamed 5 thousandths to fit the .625 ball rod end - would that be a
problem?):
6 ft/pc .75 OD SS tubing, .62ID 8989K83 21.70
21.70
2 5/8x18 ball rod end 6072K67 10.31
20.62
pkg/50 Hex Jam Nuts 5/8x18 62A535 7.59 7.59
Total, w/o shipping:
49.81
Of course, you also need a machine shop to make the connector piece as per
Bernie's diagram. Maybe we could do a group deal, that is find one shop that
could make them up, with direct payment and shipment straight to the end
user.
