OK Fellas, here is the whole story. I discovered the car at
the dealer's in early December 1990; drove it, was
impressed, etc. I called a friend at Road & Track who raved
about it, but recommended I stall a bit because in
mid-December there was going to be a factory/dealer
teleconference at which the A series cars would be
announced. R&T had previously published its report on the
car and he sent me a copy. He also said they had conducted
their standard road test from R&T in LA to Marin County with
four similar cars. When time came to head home down the
coast, they drew straws to see who got to drive the TQ
wagon. He won, hence his rave review.

In mid-December the teleconference occurred, he called and
told me the dealer cost, I went to the sales manager, asked
him how he liked the A series teleconference, and offered
$35,000. Bingo, with slight adjustments, and I picked up the
car on Dec 20, 1990.

In just over ten years and 197,000 miles I have spent just
under $4,000 in maintenance. I do almost all work myself;
having gotten intimate with many aspects of the car. I have
done all the usual bits, including pumps and belts, bypass
valve, O2 sensor, breather hose, Euro lights, door handle
and window cable, a few head units, windshield, metal
radiator, suspension bushings, wiper motor, flap spring,
alt. brushes, valve cover gasket, etc. and a dash mounted
button to retrieve the codes.

Best car I have ever owned; safest, fastest, most gratifying
and comfy, and I hope to drive the wheels off it......
