I have been chasing a slightly lowered boost problem in my
200 TQW (208k mi.) for a few weeks, so last weekend I
replaced a torn upper intercooler hose. Nearly invisible
tear under the hose clamp. That got some of the boost back.
So, I then disconnected, cleaned and tested everything else.
The lower intercooler hose was good so I then vacuum tested
all the vacuum hoses. Everything tested OK, but since they
were all original equipment (I bought the car new) I
replaced all the vacuum hoses. The trio of miniature vacuum
connections above the distributor was obviously suspect and
required special attention to get the clamps to really
clamp. The result was was total boost. It appears that very
minor leaks at the connectors, hose age, etc. accounted for
the leakage.

Moral: Fix it tho' it appears to be not
broke.....................
