Ken:
Point for the future - failing outer CV joint can be detected when driving
slowly around a parking lot, you'll hear a chunka, chunka, type noise. CV
boots should be inspected when you're changing your oil, another CV joint
test is to grab the axle and look for excess play.
Wheel bearings tend to make variable pitched whining noises depending on
road speed.
You did the right thing by following up - I do have a bad gut feeling about
the garage wanting to "take you".
At an inspection station, a friend had similar issues about tail lights or
license plate lights...when she got out of the car to look the lights
"mysteriously" starting working...before I found out about this I went to
the same station and "Failed" because 3 of of my third brake light bulbs
were out.Hello?
;^)
Did YOU hear the noise? even when the mechanic drove with you?
